Summertime Blues and Sushi Song, the first two videos made especially for Adam's Buxton's BUG – our new TV show on Sky Atlantic HD – are now online. Adam got together with his old pal Garth Jennings (of Hammer & Tongs fame) to make the video for the unhinged version of Eddie Cochran’s Summertime Blues by Japanese punk kings Guitar Wolf (who, having met them on a trip to Japan, Adam now describes as a combination of Rammstein and The Muppets). The result is pretty much live action-cartoon comic perfection as Adam parades a sandy beach in fetching stripey beachwear, narrowly avoids real explosions, barges in front of his own father (the venerable Baaaddad himself, Nigel Buxton) in the queue for some 'Summertime Booze', and has his head knocked clean off with a cricket bat. You can watch Adam and Garth's Summertime Blues here - with or without phonetically-correct subtitles, for extra fun! Believe it or not the Summertime Blues video was filmed in England – on the beach at West Wittering in Sussex – back in March (when it was hot). And you can find Adam and Garth talking in very entertaining fashion about the Summertime Blues video in the Meet The Director video, on the Sky Atlantic website. Summertime Blues was shown in the first episode of Adam Buxton's BUG (July 9th 2012) - followed in the second episode by our second video made specially for the series: Sushi Song, directed by friend of BUG, David Wilson. David was our special guest at BUG 29 in February this year, where we showed his superb videos for Metronomy's The Bay and the Maccabees' Pelican, and he performed a live demo of the Praxinoscope device from his Moray McLaren video that creates animation in real-time. Then we asked David to visualise the Sushi Song for the TV series - Adam's own composition that celebrates his obsessive love of Japanese cuisine.
| And Adam and David match the R&B vibe of Sushi Song (produced by Stuart Earl) with a sexy video, sexy Japanese chicks shaking raw fish out of their booty, and a moment where Adam gets to be, in his own words, "a hungry gynaecologist." Watch Sushi Song here.
The video was shot at the Moshi Moshi Japanese restaurant in Brighton, England in April, and screened on Adam Buxton's BUG in episode 2 (July 16th 2012). And you can watch the Behind The Scenes video here.
